Basic Sit-n-Go Strategy

Sit-n-Go Tournaments are slightly different in play than other online Texas Hold 'Em tournaments or ring games you are used to. The differences are minor, but you should be aware of them in order to get in the game at the top of your form.

Every player receives the same amount of chips at the beginning of the game. The blinds will start low, but increase over the period of the game. Your objective, of course, is to win all the other player's chips and remain in the game to the end.

When the tournament starts, many of the other people in the table are actually loose or passive players, known also as fishes. Players of said type are the first ones on leaving the table because they play less than optimal poker.

To become a winning player you may play with the following strategy in the beginning of the game: Play a tight game. Play hands that are really worth playing, like high pairs and suited cards only in the hand. Don’t go All-In unless you are confident that you sit with the best odds by far to win the hand.

After the blinds increases and several of the other players are eliminated you are then at a critical stage where you must start playing aggressively to enlarge your chip stack for later on. If you at this stage have a large chip stack then you can play more relaxed and cautious. Let other people make the mistakes. Wait on the good hands. If you are low on chips, then yes, play aggressive and increase your chip stack for the ‘end game’ phase.

Once you are down to four players at the table, keep in mind that these other players are there for a reason: they are also good players. Play a patient game, avoid mistakes and if you are ahead, especially so. If you are running severely behind in chips, then you have to be aggressive and take some chances with some All-in plays.  Recall that with fewer people at the table, you must play more hands. The fewer the people, the bigger the chance is that you have the best hand. Learn how to read the people that play good and you will take a few extra hands from them.

That’s it Playah! Good luck at the tables
